Dear Maryland State Legislature: 

The work of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science under the leadership of President Donald Boesch is truly impressive. As Governor, and now as a private citizen, I often turn to the scientists and staff at UMCES for advice and counsel; for the sound science that is so helpful in decision making on issues affecting the Chesapeake Bay and the environment of our great state of Maryland. The Center has a great legacy and an even brighter future.

It has been my pleasure to serve as Chairman of the Center’s Board of Visitors during the past three years. We have expanded to a full complement of members, representing a wide ranging and accomplished group of men and women dedicated to representing the Center and its exciting work.
